Project Description
Long before Lusail’s skyline existed as it does today, Qatar Rail’s Lusail Tram network was already being built to reflect the emirate’s heritage station interiors drawing on gypsum engravings from traditional Qatari houses, majlis, and palaces, and clay textures lifted from historic forts and souqs, running across a four-line, 38-kilometre network of 30 stations. Giving that heritage-inspired design a durable, weather-resistant form at the platform edge the fencing, the barriers, the surfaces passengers touch called for a material Gulf GRC was only beginning to work with ourselves.
In 2016, we clad the Lusail tram stations in smooth-texture beige UHPC panels and produced the UHPC station fencing with embedded glass one of our earliest UHPC projects and our first UHPC footprint in Lusail, well before the district’s towers and hotels made UHPC part of our regular scope of work.
Delivered for Qatar Rail’s Lusail network, which began public service with its first stations in January 2022, the project marked the point where Gulf GRC moved from GRC into UHPC a material that’s since become core to our largest and most technically demanding work across Qatar.
